Ever been going through something difficult and wondered, “Am I the only one that has experienced this?”
Ever had someone try to give you a quick solution, and you felt like saying: “I don’t want you to fix me, I just want you to understand me!”
It comforts your soul when someone identifies with you. On the other hand, when no one understands, everything feels harder. And when someone misunderstands you, it can be agonizing.
That’s why Christmas is such good news. Christmas means …
The Creator of the cosmos became a human being. He found out what it was like to be born, to burp, and to cry. He found out what it was like to skin his knee, to do homework and to want friends. He found out what it is like to have a job, to prepare for his future and to deal with difficult people. He also found out what it is like to be tempted, to be tired, to be disappointed and to be rejected… to suffer, to bleed and to die.
Without Christmas, God would have always loved you, but He never would have understood you fully. But because God became a baby in Bethlehem, He can identify with you every step of the way. God understands. Always, forever, God understands.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses…. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace….” (Heb. 4:15–16, ESV)
